The supermarket giant has announced plans for a new store on the site of the former Caffyn’s Volkswagen garage in Goring Road.

If it is approved by Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee it will create between 20 and 25 new jobs and bring investment to the area.

Mark Rush, Sainsbury’s regional acquisitions manager, said: “We are delighted to announce our plans for a new Sainsbury’s Local in Worthing.

“We believe the proposed Local will bring a number of benefits to the community by providing investment and new jobs, support for local charities and schools and a high quality affordable food offer for local residents.”

The new shop will feature fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, bakery goods, drinks, snacks and other convenience products. It is proposed that the shop would trade from 7am-11pm and not on a 24 hour basis.

Sainsbury’s said it will be liaising with Worthing Borough Council to ensure the plans are in keeping with the surrounding area.

The announcement comes after the council approved a new housing development also on the Caffyn’s site last Wednesday.
