Sainsbury's search for local charity

BEXHILL Sainsbury's is inviting customers and colleagues to help them find a local charity to be the stores official charity partner for the year, and is asking people to come forward with nominations.

The Sainsbury's local charity of the year initiative is part of Sainsbury's 140th Birthday celebrations.

The selected charity will benefit through working in partnership with Sainsbury's colleagues to organise fundraising events, including charity collections, and through volunteering.

Residents can nominate a local charity between 6th May '“ 26th May 2009 by completing a nomination form and submitting it into the 'Local Charity of the Year' voting box, which can be found at the front of the store.

After the closing date, Sainsbury's will select a short list of three charities from all the nominations submitted.

Representatives from the short-list will then be asked to visit the store to talk to colleagues about what they do and how the Sainsbury's team could support them.

The stores 'Local Charity of the Year' will be then be chosen and will be announced to customers in June, and Manager Marco Sarro hopes local residents will give Sainsbury's plenty of support for this important challenge.

Marco said: "By supporting a local charity we can give something back to the community by helping with fundraising and volunteering. Clearly it's important that we find a charity that is close to the hearts and minds of our customers and colleagues so I would encourage everyone to come into store and vote."
