Samaritans man information stand and ask people to call

VOLUNTEERS from a listening charity broadcast their message in a shopping centre recently.

Members of the Hastings and Rother Samaritans, who field calls from Bexhill and all of Rother as well as nationally, set up shop in Priory Meadow, Hastings, to tell residents what they do.

A spokesman for the organisation said it was vital to remember you don't have to be suicidal to ring the branch.

"We all have our ups and downs. Sometimes everything's fine, while at other times problems can pile up," she said.

"It might be the way we look, worries about money or exams, being picked on, problems at home or the loss of someone dear. "Samaritans listen in complete confidence and with an open mind. They won't judge you and won't tell you what to do."

She went on to thank those who donated, and call the day "a great success".

The organisation is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To contact the Hastings and Rother branch, based in St Andrew's Square, call 01424436666 or drop into the branch for a chat.
