Santa drops in to 1066 Specials

The year's final training session for a local football club was made doubly special by two benevolent arrivals.

First, Roger Batey of the Bexhill Rotary Club dropped in at the Bexhill College sports hall used by popular club the 1066 Specials, to present a cheque for 625.

He and his family raised the money with a sponsored walk earlier this year.

The Specials, who give young people with disabilities and special needs the chance to play football and receive coaching, then had a visit from the Father Christmas himself, along with a couple of elves.

Harold Lawrence, a founder member of the club, said: "It's been a good year. We've moved forward on a number of fronts. Membership is still increasing and the volunteer coaches have been excellent.

"There's been a lot of progress."
