Santa set to plant trees in North Bersted

It will not be Christmas trees that concern Father Christmas at the Bersted Brooks public open space, however.

He will instead be digging in about 200 young trees to add to the native species '“ such as common elder, oak, black poplar and ash '“ already at the rural site north of Rowan Way.

But he could do with some help on December 20 because he is only able to be present between 10am and 3pm.

The Friends of Bersted Brooks are delighted he has been able to find time in his busy schedule for the conservation effort.

Those who join him will be able to keep their spirits up with light refreshments, including mince pies and mulled wine '“ for the adults. There will be seasonal crafts on the go too, so most ages will find something to enjoy.

Volunteers should wrap up well and wear wellies as it will be very muddy. Work gloves and tools will be provided, as will good humour.

Friends chairman Wayne Jones said: "This might be an ideal time for mums to do their last-minute Christmas shopping, while leaving the children with dad doing something different, but worthwhile.

"The Bersted Brooks project is an investment for the future, with the enjoyment of the community in mind."
