School closed after flooding

A MAJOR water leak has closed a West Sussex school.

Slindon Primary school has been shut due to the flooding incident.

Water has escaped from pipework (probably frost damage) and flooded classrooms to the point that they can not be occupied. Work is ongoing in helping to dry out the building with dehumidifiers.

The school will remain closed today (Tuesday January 4) but they are hoping to open tomorrow with pupils split between Early Years, Foundation and KS1 in the unaffected classbase in the school and other children using the nearby Village Hall. The Village Hall has been booked for this week and next and they are hoping that other bookings can be rearranged, if needed.

Two classbases are affected together with a smaller space used for worship but there is a terrible smell due to the damp.

The parents of the 53 pupils are being kept informed.
