School crane row: Children kept at home

MOTHERS at St Mary Magdalene's School who campaigned against the huge crane nearby have kept their children at home.

The towering crane overhangs school grounds.

Parents had been given assurances by Allum Developers and Contractors that the crane at St James' Walk was safe and pupils were not in any danger.

Meetings were held with representatives of the school and the builders.

Then the crane was put back up following safety measures with the promise of regular inspection by experts from McAlpine Construction.

But a number of mothers say safety assurances are not enough.
