School performs Holocaust drama 'beautifully'

A dramatic and emotional performance by dancers from Filsham Valley School won plaudits at a regional competition.

The team had won a place in the Southern Grand Final of the Rock Challenge dance contest in March.

During half term holiday, they tested their talents against the best this area has to offer, in Portsmouth - including a school in Wales, another from the Isle of Wight, two from Portsmouth, one from Chichester and several from London.

Teresa Bennett, school sports co-ordinator, said: "Some of the pieces were breathtaking, with stunning costumes and scenery.

Our piece, called Then They Came, was based on The Holocaust and was very well received. The students performed beautifully.

"The judges' comments were very complementary.

"The students were thrilled to gain the fifth spot overall. Many schools did not receive any prizes, and last year we didn't win anything. It was a very long but enjoyable day!"
