After days of relentless grey skies, the sun came back briefly to shine on the Rocks Park Primary School, Uckfield annual cross country races.
Six primary schools took part in the event: Rocks Park, Manor, St Philips, Framfield, Little Horsted and Holy Cross. Teams of five girls and five boys lined up at the starting line to begin the gruelling run round the playing field and through woodland. The first 15 home from each race would go onto compete at the area semi finals in Crowborough.
The winner of the boys’ race was Thomas Nettleton from Rocks Park School, with team-mate Austin Munn in second place. Competing well with the boys from the home team was Dylan Cooper (St Philips) coming in third place, closely followed by Nathan Dowding, Evan Lester and Matthew Vane - all from Rocks Park School - coming in fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively. This placed hosts Rocks Park School in first place overall, with seven points, second place St Philips and third place Manor.
In the girls’ race, Catherine Herdon (St Philips) won the event; Rosie Newman (Framfield) was second with Francesca Tilley (Rocks Park) third and Emily Coleman, also from Rocks Park, fourth. This led to a tie, with Rocks Park and St Philips both taking 16 points in first place overall, and Manor second. In the team event Rocks Park won overall with 23 points, St Philips came second with 38 points and Manor third with 81 points. Everyone who took part thanked the UCTC marshals.
Pupils were presented with bronze, silver and gold certificates.
