School wins a day out for its pupils
Laburnum Grove Junior School has been chosen as the Woods Travel School of the Year. The competition was open to schools across West Sussex.
The prize will be a free coach and day out for the school’s Year 6 pupils. This will take place in their fun activity week after their SATs. Year 5 children will also be involved in many activities during the week as they have worked so well together.

Hide AdPip Otten, the school’s head teacher, said: “We were picked as the winning entry in recognition of the extra effort that was put in by our children and staff during the emergency flooding.
“Our staff were proud of the children’s excellent behaviour and team effort during the time we were in the temporary classrooms.
“We were also grateful to all the parents who supported us through this difficult time and feel the award is for everyone.”
Another benefit of winning the title is the 20 per cent discount the school of some 150 pupils on Laburnum Grove will receive for any coach trips with Woods in the next year.

The school suffered severe disruption in the summer of 2012 after it was flooded on June 11. Eight mobile classrooms enabled it to re-open on July 2 before repairs took before the autumn term.
