Schoolchildren open revamped store

PUPILS at Glebe Community Middle School can now start the day as they mean to go on '“ thanks to a £400 gift from Tesco.

As part of celebrations to launch the new 23,000sq ft extension at the Tesco Extra Superstore at the Holmbush Centre, Shoreham, store manager Neil Thacker and his staff have made a donation to the Southwick school's breakfast club.

On Monday at the launch of the store, club co-ordinators Angela Markwick and Tracey Cullen and Glebe Middle School pupil April Chapman, 10, accepted the 400 cash and cut a ribbon to declare the new extension officially open.

Mr Thacker also presented school pupils with an extra 100-worth of vouchers, so that they could do some shopping on the day to fill their larder. He said: "We're really pleased that Tesco Extra Shoreham has been able to give a helping hand to the school. Breakfast is an important meal. It starts your day and, with our busy schedules, people rarely remember to eat." Angela and Tracey said: "We are really grateful to Tesco for helping us set up the club.

"We started it at the beginning of this term and it runs five days a week from 7.30am to 8.15am, when we provide a healthy breakfast.

"We have 10 children signed up for it. We have also had support from other local businesses for it."
