School’s car park carols a success

Billingshurst Primary School’s Headteacher, Helen Williamson, switched on the Christmas lights last week ahead of its Carols in the Car Park celebration which took place on Tuesday December 16 at 4.30pm.

The event brought the children and the local community together for an old-fashioned Christmas sing-a-long.

Now in its third year, Carols in the Car Park is a community collaboration, with mince pies donated by Tesco Pulborough and decorations provided by Newbridge Nurseries, Hay Bales from the Stocker Family. Pupils, parents, staff and local businesses were invited to attend by torch light, to hear the school choir sing some favourite carols. Each year group entertained the audience alongside a beautiful nativity scene. There was a special performance led by Sewing Bee’s Lynda Lewis and her Signing Club who signed along to various carols.

The evening culminated in a special visit from Father Christmas who very kindly agreed to stop-by despite his extremely hectic schedule.

Helen Williamson, Headteacher, said:

“Our Christmas display looks particularly magical this year thanks to the generosity of Newbridge Nurseries, who donated a tree for our school reception area and a selection of animals, from a donkey, cows, penguins to reindeers for the nativity scene, which has delighted the children.”

The lights really helped to enhance the festivities and were enjoyed by all our visitors at the event. The evening raised £113 which have all been donated to the Coco’s Foundation, a wonderful charity run by Coco’s Style which aims to make the world a better place for young children in Africa. We are very pleased to be able to support Coco’s Foundation and give back to this organisation. Coco’s Style are valuable supporters of the school.”
