School's grass stays green all year

Artificial grass is allowing Rose Green Infant School pupils to play outdoors all year.

The new surface has been installed under the adventure trail and swings in the grounds of the Hawkins Close school.

The all-weather safety surface means the children can enjoy the equipment for most of the year.

Wet weather will no longer rule out playtimes.

The improvement was funded by almost 10,000 raised by the school's Parent Teacher Association.

It took the group two years to bring in the money through events such as a Christmas bazaar, summer barbecue and a sponsored bounce.

Headteacher Susanne Carter said: "The play equipment is a firm favourite with the children.

"We are delighted the PTA have helped to replace the old very worn surface.

"The school would have found it very difficult to meet the cost from its budget."
