Scooter stolen from OAP

Callous thieves have left an elderly Bognor Regis woman without her transport.

The criminals stole the electric scooter which Lily Carpenter (82) had been using for just three weeks.

That short period had been enough for Mrs Carpenter (82) to appreciate the benefits of the four wheeler.

But its theft from outside her flat at Sovereign Court in Campbell Road has left her relying on her three wheel frame to take even short journeys. Even using it for short walks to the town centre shops leaves her in too much pain from her sciatic nerve. She said: 'I am devastated by the theft. The scooter made a lot of difference to me.'

She hopes the rare blue colour of the Road-Knight Legend model will enable it to be easily spotted.

The theft took place between last Thursday and last Sunday morning. Mrs Carpenter had parked the scooter in a corner at the rear of the car park of the flats complex.

The thieves ignored two other scooters and left the battery charger and cover of her scooter.

She acquired the electric scooter secondhand from the father of her son's partner.

It cost 2,000 about three years ago but had never been used. It was still worth some 1,000.

Mrs Carpenter asked anyone with information about the theft, or who had seen the scooter, to contact Bognor police station on 0845 60 70 999, quoting crime serial no: WA1/5462/07.
