Scooter success for March School

A new scooter club has been launched at a Chichester school.

The March Church of England Primary School has gone scooter mad with support from Sustrans.

The launch, which was held in the morning, provided a healthy breakfast to pupils and some great hints and tips on scootering safely.

The March CofE School has taken delivery of eight new scooters and helmets provided by Sustrans and supplied by ESP of Chichester.

The scooters are available for children to borrow to give scootering a go to find out what all the hype is about, perhaps before they ask their parents to buy one of their own.

Steve Jackson, deputy head and travel plan champion, said: “It is fantastic to see so many children and their families now scooting, cycling and walking to and from school.

“The launch breakfast shows just what enthusiasm the children have and means they are ready for school after some great exercise and a healthy breakfast.”

Ana Mankiewicz, Sustrans 20mph and Bike It officer for Chichester, provided the inspiration for the scooter project and the funding for the scooters and helmets .

She said: “Sustrans are really pleased to be working with The March School on this innovative project. Being able to travel actively to and from school is so important for children’s wellbeing and also reduces the amount of traffic during the rush hour. Having a scooter loan scheme will allow many more families to participate in this. We look forward to seeing lots more children scooting to school!”

The March School already has a number of schemes and clubs to encourage children and families to consider healthy affordable modes of transport.
