Scouts knock on residents' doors for Poppy Appeal

Collecting for the Poppy Appeal, members of 3rd Shoreham Sea Scouts raised the money from bucket donations at shops and supermarkets, as well as by knocking on residents’ doors and selling poppies.

Scout leader Colin Strong said: “They helped to raise £2,805.92 from the public. They were are B&Q, Dunelm Mill, The Co-operative and Tesco in Holmbush.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the leaders, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and parents for all their help.

“If it wasn’t for the parents, none of this could have happened, as the children are not allowed to hold the collection pots themselves.”

The Scout group, ranging from 10 to 14-years-olds, raised money for the Royal British Legion for the first time last year and managed to collect £1,319 – but this year they doubled that figure.

“The residents of Shoreham were really pleased. They said they haven’t seen the poppies come to their doors for years and years,” added Colin.

The fundraising is part of the Sea Scouts’ community badge, which requires them to give up their time and help people in their area.
