Scouts' tidy-up has dual purpose

"BE prepared" is the Scout motto and the 2nd Bexhill Sea Scouts - currently hosting the 9th Bexhill following their arson attack - are prepared to turn any situation to advantage.

Members of both groups were hard at work this morning running a toy and book fair from the Second's Buckhurst Road headquarters.

Group Scout Leader Barry Wilkinson said: "We needed to clear out a room upstairs. We need the space to create a computer room. We have four computers to install for Leader and Scout training.

"The room will not just be for our use but for any Scout Group,

"It took us all evening from 5pm to turn it out last night, box it up and bring it downstairs.

"But it has meant that we didn't need to get in any 'stock' but could stage a toy and book fair.

"People pay a lot of money for soft toys - we are selling them for between 10p and a pound!

"If the fair only makes a few pounds it will have done some good - and we will have cleared that room'¦"
