Scouts unite in sunriseceremony

Scouts from around Bognor Regis will be united with those from around the world next week.

They will be holding a beacon lighting ceremony along the seafront at 8am on Wednesday to mark the movement's centenary.

They will renew their promise, reflect on the past and make plans for the future. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The sunrise occasion will be happening throughout the globe. It will also be marked by Scouts from the Barnham area who will be joining in the biggest camp ever seen in the Arun district.

It is being organised by the Arundel and Littlehampton District Scouts as part of the 100th birthday celebrations.

More than 500 Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and leaders from an area which stretches from Barnham to Ferring will be present for a week from Sunday. They will be joined by 150 Beavers on Wednesday.

A host of activities will be offered at the camp to make it as memorable as possible.

The usual climbing, abseiling and orienteering will be joined by the innovative straw caving, falconry and giant inflatable fun.
