Screen on The Green a stunning success in Littlehampton

About 40 people took part in the fancy dress competition on Saturday (August 9) at the town’s inaugural Screen on The Green event, on The Green.

Plenty of children dressed up in 1950s attire to pay homage to the stars of the hit film Grease.

It was a tough call but the judges councillor Jill Long, the town mayor, and Jane Wood of East Beach Cafe – which sponsored the competition – did reach an agreement in their top five ‘T-birds’ and ‘Pink Ladies’.

The finalists were then asked a few questions before the audience had to shout for their favourite.

The winners were: four-year-old Bobby Haines of Littlehampton, who dressed as Danny, and Angel Barnett, ten of Mitcham, Surrey, who was dressed as a Pink Lady.

Both winners were delighted to have won and their families said how wonderful they thought the event was.

A spokeswoman from the Littlehampton Town Council, which staged the occasion, said: “There must have been around 1,500 people at the event who seemed to have really enjoyed it. They were singing along, dancing and clapping.

“Wrench Garage, of Rustington, managed to rustle up six American cars which were a great addition to the event.”

The crowds then sat around to watch a showing of Grease on the big screen.

The town council also praised Littlehampton trader Tyndall Jones who collected £234.92 for the mayor’s charities, 4th, 5th and 7th Littlehampton Scouts.
