A sea of sunflower tributes will be created at St Wilfrid's Hospice because the flowers lift people's spirits.

The brilliant yellow petals are known as rays and the sun-like flowers are a summer favourite that symbolise adoration, loyalty and longevity.

Michelle Sidney, individuals fundraising manager, said: “In return for a donation of people’s choice, we will dedicate a sunflower tribute in the name of a loved one.

“The sunflower will be ‘planted’ in our beautiful gardens and we invite people to come along to see their tribute, amongst many others, at any time throughout June up until our Rainbow Day event on Sunday, July 17.

“Every dedicated sunflower will help us to continue caring for local people living with life-limiting illnesses. There’s no limit to the number of sunflowers you can dedicate and people are more than welcome to take them home after Rainbow Day. Alternatively, they can have their tribute sent straight home for display within their own home or garden.”

Call 01243 775302 or visit the hospice at Grosvenor Road, Chichester, to donate a sunflower.

The Rainbow Day event will be in the hospice garden from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, July 17. Entry is free and as well as being a chance to remember loved ones, there will be a variety of stalls, craft activities and drumming workshop, as well as refreshments and home-made cakes.
