Sea Scouts take to the seas at Poole to celebrate milestone

BIRTHDAY celebrations of the 1st Felpham Sea Scout Group took members to the birthplace of the movement.

More than 125 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders spent the anniversary week on Brownsea Island.

They took full advantage of the island’s location in Poole Harbour, spending much of their time in their three powerboats, 12 dinghies and 15 kayaks.

Tim Holland, of the group,
said: “With water activities at the top of the agenda, every opportunity was given to attendees to get afloat or simply take advantage of the safe shallow waters leading to a number of paddle sports canoe qualifications and fine tuning of sailing, kayak and power boat skills.”

Land-based activities also provided entertainment.

The aim of those involved, led by group scout leader Peter Jakes, to provide a ‘funtastic’ memorable experience for the youngsters aged six-18’ was well and truly achieved.
