Seaford Head gets grant for upgrade

The schools applied for money from the Condition and Improvement Fund (CIF) before Christmas and Seaford’s share will be used to fund an upgrade to the fire alarm system and the replacement of old windows and doors. Lewes MP Maria Caulfield said: “I am delighted with this news and that Seaford Head School is to benefit from the CIF. I have written to the school to offer my assistance if they need to liaise directly with ministers over the award and it is great news the school is having updated fire safety equipment installed.”

The CIF was set up to assist with building improvements and expansion projects. Some 132 academies and sixth-form colleges in the south east – including ones in Wealden, Eastbourne, Bexhill and Rye – have been told their bids were successful.

Announcing the grants, education secretary Nicky Morgan said: “Every child should be taught in surroundings which allow them to fulfil their potential, and we have made significant investments in school buildings to ensure this happens.

“The latest funding from the CIF will help us to build on our progress, so that even more pupils and teachers have access to safe, high-quality classrooms.”

The government received just over 3,500 applications countrywide for a cut of the £435million pot but could only fund 1,276 bids at 1,030 academies and sixth-form colleges.
