An inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (September 3), heard 53-year-old Jarrod Furminger had been warned by doctors that he would die if he continued drinking alcohol.

His partner Claire Raffell, who shared a home with Mr Furminger and their young daughter in Sandgate Close, Seaford, said he was a very kind and loving man who had enjoyed walking along Seaford seafront before his drinking got out of control.

He worked as a lift engineer for Stannah Lifts for 29 years and more recently for East Sussex Lifts.

The inquest, which is a public hearing, was told Mr Furminger would drink up to 20 cans of lager some days.

The levels of alcohol in his body, according to a toxicology report, were extremely high.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict that Mr Furminger’s death was drink related.
