Seaford's £276,000 HQ is 'a milestone in council's life'

COUNCILLORS and guests crowded into Seaford Town Council s new premises and stood shoulder-to-shoulder for the official opening of the Broad Street property on Thursday last week.

Hurdis House was declared open by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Phyllida Stewart-Roberts, who commented that this was a milestone in the life of the two-year-old town council.

Seaford s Mayor, Cllr Les Whittle, said: At last, Seaford has its own municipal building once again.

Hurdis House was bought by the Tory-led council earlier this year amid objections from LibDem town councillors.

Refurbishments and repairs have only recently been completed. The council has spent a total of about 276,000 on the building.

Many of the town council committees which previously met at the Downs Leisure Centre will now meet at the Broad Street headquarters.

However, the property will not accommodate the full council or the planning and highways committee, both of which will continue to meet at the leisure centre.
