A sporting charity is holding a 25-mile trek across the picturesque South Downs to celebrate 25 years of working with the community across Sussex and is offering a sign-up deal as part of National Parks Week.

Albion in the Community (AITC) is the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, knicknamed the Seagulls, and engaged with more than 30,000 throughout the county in the last year alone.

Its latest fundraising event – the scenic trek from Lewes to Beachy Head near Eastbourne - is taking place on September 6 and two of the Seagulls’ star players are encouraging supporters to sign up and help raise vital funds for the charity.

Fans’ favourites Bruno and Inigo Calderon are long-term supporters of AITC and have teamed up to promote the South Downs fundraiser.

Bruno, who plays right back for Chris Hughton’s side, has recorded an online video urging fans to “swap their football boots for their walking boots” while current Player of the Year Calderon, said, “I would encourage Brighton fans to take part.

“The charity is celebrating its 25th anniversary so signing up for a 25-mile trek is a great way to enjoy the South Downs National Park and raise funds for this great local cause.”

Calderon is no stranger to challenging treks, having taken a break from Albion’s recent pre-season training camp to scale Grande Motte – one of the highest mountains in the Alps.

The AITC trek may not have a 11,338ft peak to match Grande Motte, but at 25 miles it still represents a considerable challenge. A seven-mile route is also available and both benefit from the beautiful rolling hills of the South Downs and unrivalled sea views.

And, to celebrate National Parks Week which runs from Monday (July 27) until Sunday, August 2, AITC is offering a deal on entry to the trek. Book three places at a cost of £18 for the seven-mile course or £25 for the 25-mile option and receive a fourth place free.

Everyone who registers will also receive a training guide, fundraising pack and a ten per cent discount voucher for Cotswold Outdoor. To take part email or call 01273 878236.
