Search for new charity of the year

Sainsbury's Local Charity of the Year scheme is back and the Horsham store is looking for a new charity to support from the area.

Over the next couple of months, Sainsbury’s stores will make a shortlist of charities for customers to vote for.

The winning charity will then receive a year of support from the store, which includes fundraising and awareness. Customers can vote between June 13 - 26 in stores and online.The scheme has raised over £9million over the last seven years and has helped thousands of charities across the UK.

Paul Humphries, store manager of Sainsbury’s Horsham, said: “There are so many fantastic charities in the local area who do brilliant work in our community. We’d love to hear from charities we haven’t supported before.”

If you would like to apply, please register your interest at the customer service desk or kiosk at Sainsbury’s Horsham, 7 Worthing Road, to be considered. The nominations close on Monday, May 9. Please note all charities must be registered to the UK Charity Commission.

n The charitable store also recently donated Sport Relief mugs from this year’s charity campaign, which took place in March and saw the store raise £9,000.

Left-over mugs were presented to the fundraising team at Age UK Horsham District at Lavinia House.

Julie Longman and Jo Prodger from the Fundraising Team at Age UK Horsham District said “We were thrilled with this donation, the mugs will be used across our district for the various groups we run, we are very grateful to Sainsbury’s for their kind donation.”

Sainsbury’s Horsham store manager Paul Humphries said: “We wanted to donate our remaining stock and Age UK Horsham District seemed a fantastic opportunity in helping out in the local community.”
