Search for theatre volunteers

A POPULAR Bognor Regis theatre is appealing for a helping hand.

The Regis Centre, in Belmont Street, is on the look-out for kind-hearted volunteers who may have a few hours to spare.

Those willing to donate their time may have a special skill such as being able to pick up a paint brush, or fix up some shelves, or they may just be willing to lend a hand.

Mike Stevens, the centre’s managing director, said: “We are doing well with fantastic support from our customers, and attendances are up considerably.

“We have enjoyed many full houses this year. With a building this size and this age, though, there are always things that need doing.

“It is vital for local community groups that, as a town, we provide facilities for those interested in the performing arts.

“We now need new volunteers who have basic maintenance skills to help us keep the Regis Centre up to scratch.

“The work is varied, enjoyable – you work with a great bunch of people, and the skills you learn will look good on any C.V.”

The theatre is run by the charity Arun Arts and its volunteers are invaluable to its smooth running, taking on roles in the box office, café, charity shop and front of house. A push is being made to find the right people to help with the maintenance side of things.

Bev Ludlow has volunteered at the theatre for five years. She said: “You really feel as if you are doing something worthwhile for your friends, family, and Bognor Regis when you volunteer at the Regis Centre. No two days are the same, and I look forward to coming in every time.”
