Wealden District Council is on the hunt for a local hero who gives up their time and energy to help organisations in the district.

It is also looking for the Young Volunteer of the Year, the Trustee of the Year and someone to award the Outstanding Community Achievement accolade to.

The district council’s Volunteer Awards are taking place again this year and will be celebrated at a summer barbecue hosted by the Chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Brian Redman.

He said: “There are many heroes out there who through their own time and dedication make other people’s lives so much better. Volunteers make Wealden a great place to live.

“They deserve to be honoured and thanked for what they do.”

Wealden’s Volunteer Awards categories are: Community Volunteer Hero, Outstanding Community Achievement through Volunteer Hours, Young Volunteer of the Year, Trustee of the Year. Winners will receive a certificate, publicity about their group and volunteering, £100 for the community group which made the nomination, and £25 in gift vouchers for the volunteer.

The closing date for nominations is April 30.

Nominations must be made by another volunteer or member of the organisation. To enter visit and search for Volunteer Awards.
