Second time lucky for Littlehampton skydiver

After having his skydiving ambitions cancelled at the 11th hour due to bad weather last month, Martin Felix, of Albert Road, is now hoping to retry his death-defying free-fall.

The 25-year-old who works at the George Inn, in Surrey Street, will be jumping 10,000ft out of a plane, high above Salisbury, in aid of cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.

Martin has not yet rescheduled the exact date for the plunge but hopes to take the dive at the end of the month.

He said: “It was a massive blow, to know I was so close and then to have the whole thing called off, at the last minute.

“I was sitting in the plane, ready to jump, when it was cancelled. I couldn’t believe it.

“So now I just want to get back up there and complete the jump.”

The dive was arranged to take place on the last day in April. However, despite his cancellation disappointment, Martin says every cloud has a silver lining.

“I had already raised about £420 but now I will have the chance to try to hit £500,” he said. “So it’s not all bad, I guess.”

Martin has a fascination with watching similar extreme sports, such as bungee jumping and base jumping, but admitted this would be the first time he has ever put his fascination into practice.

Despite this, he said it would not affect his determination to complete his charity plunge.

All the money raised will go towards helping CLIC Sargent, a charity which provides specialised support for children, and families of young people, suffering with cancer.

Martin said: “This is a brilliant charity and I was really touched by the work they do to help children and families dealing with cancer. I want to support them as much as possible.”
