Secure your vehicles properly to deter thives, say Peacehaven police

Police are reminding residents in Peacehaven, Telscombe and East Saltdean to make sure their vehicles are secure.

PC Anna Batchelor said; “A 16-year old boy from Brighton was convicted of one theft of a motor vehicle at Brighton Youth Court on 15 July, and was sentenced to four months in a youth offender institution.

“But this does not mean we should let out guard down, as we are still getting a few incidents of insecure parked vehicles being searched and items stolen, with two or three being reported to us every ten days or so.

“Usually, nothing is stolen and an untidy search of the vehicle is made. This is a reminder to keep all personal effects out of your car and out of view

“Please make it as difficult as possible for these people to get into your cars and/or property.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to report all incidents as soon as possible, via 999 if you see a theft taking place, or via 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police,ukif you discover it later. This will maximise our chances of retrieving forensic evidence.”
