STRAWBERRY FAYRE AT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL: This Saturday June 25, Sedlescombe CE Primary school hold their annual strawberry fayre from 12 to 3pm. You are invited to join in the fun and bring your family and friends to join in too. There will be delicious strawberry delights to enjoy in the school hall and many stalls to browse as well. The children will be dancing. This will be the last fayre for Mrs Ham, after being head teacher here for 25 years she will be retiring this summer. The new head teacher Mrs Harvey will be at the fayre for everyone to meet so it is hoped lots of you will attend.

SEDLESCOMBE FLOWER FESTIVAL: This weekend June 25 and 26 there is a beautiful flower festival in our local parish church, St John the Baptist. You are invited to view the arrangements under the title “Summer Happenings”. Talented flower arrangers of the village and beyond are coming together to present this special event depicting some of the activities and events associated with Summer. There will be light refreshments available on both days, Saturday 10am to 5pm and on Sunday 12.30pm to 5pm. Parish Eucharist will be on Sunday at 10.30am as usual with festival evensong at 6pm.

A MESSAGE TO CHURCH MEMBERS: Any help, cakes for teas or tombola prizes for the above event at the church would be greatly appreciated. Please contact 720728 or 870808 with offers of help or for collection

HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW: There are still a few tickets available for the coach trip to Hampton Court Flower Show organised by Sedlescombe and District Garden Society. The date is Thursday July 7 and the cost £35, to include coach and entry to the event. Come and join us on a trip to remember. Hampton Court has such history and the flower show will I know be fantastic. If you are interested in joining the trip please contact Rod Eldridge on 01424 870983 for further information. THEATRE TRIP TO SEE “BEAUTIFUL”: The theatre club have a couple of tickets available to see “Beautiful”, the Carole King story on at the Aldwych theatre in the Strand London. “TOM JONES”: Congratulations to Sedlescombe Players, all the performers and behind scenes production team for their success last week when “Tom Jones” was staged in the village hall. A huge amount of commitment, time and effort goes into this kind of performance from everyone, Tara directed an excellent cast who were enjoying their character roles, scenery was fantastic transporting you back to 18th century homes, an inn and even a jail. The play was certainly appreciated by the audience when I was there and I’m sure on the other nights too. If by any chance you missed getting a ticket then I have heard that it will be performed later in the year at the Stables theatre in Hastings or if indeed you have been inspired to get involved, either by treading the boards or helping backstage take a look at their website www.sedlescombeplayers.co.uk.

SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE 2016: Only a few weeks now, preparations are well on the way to ensure that Sedlescombe has a day to remember on Saturday July 16. Mark your diaries for the summer event of the year, Sedlescombe fayre along with the Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society summer show will take place on the sports field. Many of the village groups and businesses have already signed up to take part and be there. The goose will make a star appearance once again later in the day and you could win a cash prize so try to buy a square now before the date whenever you see John Brownsdon in his goose hat! Live music, dog display, model aircraft flying display, vintage cars, games and fun for all the family and refreshments throughout the afternoon, more news on attractions to follow. Once again Chris Campbell has sponsored advertising boards in the local area and Pumphouse Designs printing posters and flyers. GRAND DRAW AT VILLAGE FAYRE: There have been more fantastic prizes donated for the Grand Draw this year, thanks to the generosity of the Brickwall Hotel, the Queens Head, Clockhouse Hair and Beauty, Bella Vista restaurant, Treat of Battle, Sedlescombe Model aircraft club, Pashley Manor gardens, Sedlescombe Vineyard, Carr Taylor Vineyard, Vicarys of Battle, Brian Croucher, Sedlescombe Golf Club, Sedlescombe Players , Jonathan Vine hall , Big Green Cardigan festival, plus more. All proceeds from the draw goes towards village causes. Tickets are now on sale at the village shop priced at just 50p each.

ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDENS 2016: This Saturday June 25, ten gardens will be open in Battle to view as part of Battles big weekend. Tickets to visit the gardens will be on sale from the St Michaels hospice stall on the recreation ground £5 will give you access to view all gardens on the route. Open from 10.30am to 4pm

On Tuesday June 28 it is back to nomal with Fishers Farm, Etchingham TN19 7DD being open to visit from 10.30am to 4pm . Admission £4 with free parking and refreshments available to purchase all day.

Booklets, with details of all the gardens open in the surrounding area in aid of St Michaels hospice, are on sale at the Sedlescombe Stores. The season will have gardens open every week until August with one additional garden open in October. A minimum donation of 50p is requested for the booklet. SUMMER CONCERT: I have been asked to include this item as a few years ago we had “Cantabile” sing in Sedlescombe and I know that it was enjoyed by those that attended. Fresh from being awarded the cup for first prize in the Church Choir section at the prestigious Hastings Music Festival, Guestling Church Choir will be taking part in this year’s “Cantabile, Songs for a Summer Evening” Concert on Saturday July 16. The concert takes place at St. Laurence Church, Guestling at 7pm, is hosted by Molly Townson, and also includes Suzan Ozkan (Soprano) and Enid Graham (Accompanist). Tickets are £12, which includes refreshment with strawberries and cream, and can be obtained directly from the Church, or from from Gill Perry on 814578 or Molly Townson 812520. All concert proceeds will go to the St. Laurence Church Restoration Fund. Based on previous years, this is a concert not to be missed!
