EU REFERENDUM PUBLIC MEETINGS

This Saturday June 11 at 10am, our local MP Huw Merriman will chair a public meeting in Sedlescombe village hall when there will be the opportunity to hear from both view points for or against staying in the European Union. I should imagine this will be a popular event in area judging by the posters around at the moment.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

This Sunday June 12 at 3pm , Sedlescombe United Reformed Church will be hosting an Anniversary Service as the Chapel on the Hill is 137 years old. A music group named “Feed the Soul” will be leading worship. Everyone is welcome to attend this joyful event with refreshments being served following the service.

SEDLESCOMBE GREEN WI: Margeret writes “We do not have a usual meeting in June instead we will have a trip to “ Hole Park at Rolvenden, this will be on Wednesday June 15 a week earlier than our normal meeting . Hole Park has beautiful gardens suitable for wheelchairs and walking aids, a very nice tea rooms with cream teas etc. which we intend to sample. We meet on the Green at 1.45pm “ Call Margaret on 870808 if you haven’t already signed up and would like to go.

STRAWBERRY FAYRE AT THE PRIMARY SCHOOL: Sedlescombe CE Primary school hold their annual strawberry fayre on Saturday June 25 from 12 to 3pm. You are invited to join in the fun and bring your family and friends to join in too. There will be delicious strawberry delights to enjoy in the school hall and many stalls to browse as well. The children will be dancing. This will be the last fayre for Mrs Ham, after being head teacher here for 25 years she will be retiring this summer. The new head teacher Mrs Harvey will be at the fayre for everyone to meet so it is hoped lots of you will attend.

FLOWER FESTIVAL DATE: A date for your diary, there is to be a flower festival in St John the Baptist parish church the weekend of June 25 and 26 with the title “Summer Happenings”, lots more details to come in the next few weeks.

HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW: A coach trip to Hampton Court Flower Show has been organised by Sedlescombe and District Garden Society. The date is Thursday July 7and the cost £35, to include coach and entry to the event. Come and join us on a trip to remember. Hampton Court has such history and the flower show will I know be fantastic. If you are interested in joining us please contact Rod Eldridge on 01424 870983 for further information. SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE 2016: Preparations are well on the way to ensure that Sedlescombe has a day to remember on Saturday July 16. Mark your diaries for the summer event of the year, Sedlescombe fayre along with the Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society summer show will take place on the sports field. Many of the village groups and businesses have already signed up to take part and be there. The goose will make a star appearance once again later in the day and you could win a cash prize so try to buy a square now before the date whenever you see John Brownsdon in his goose hat! There will be a Grand Draw with some super prizes donated to date from the Brickwall Hotel, the Queens Head, Clockhouse Hair and Beauty, Bella Vista restaurant, Treat of Battle, Sedlescombe Model aircraft club, Pashley Manor gardens, Sedlescombe Vineyard and Carr Taylor Vineyard plus more. Tickets will be on sale shortly.

Live music, dog display, model aircraft display and refreshments throughout the afternoon, more news on attractions to follow in the weeks to come. NEW BOOK ON SALE: Roy Chapman has now completed a book of his life in Dr. Barnardo’s, Hawkhurst; and from then on in the late 1940’s through time. The book is titled ‘One Last Chance’ and is available from the village shop; or from Roy on 870520.

COME AND SEE “TOM JONES”: There are a few tickets remaining for Sedlescombe Players forthcoming production , an 18th century bawdy romp, Henry Fielding’s ‘Tom Jones’ as adapted by Jan Macalpine, it is described as one of the most perfect plots ever planned. Rehearsals are going well for what is a delightful show for all to enjoy Tickets are now on sale but selling fast with only a few left for the Friday and Saturday dates. The prices are, Tuesday June 14, £10 without supper. On Wednesday 15, Friday 17 and Saturday 18 are £16 including supper. There will be NO performance on Thursday 16. As usual, seating will be at tables of eight and the performances will be in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDENS 2016: Celebrate at Mountfield Court, Johns Cross TN32 5JP this Saturday June 11 when St Michaels hospice will be hosting an open garden party with live music and sparkling wine. Open from 10.30am to 4pm. Entrance is just £5.00. Usual refreshments will also be on offer as well as some other stalls at the event. Not able to make it there? Then why not try the gardens of the Old Town in Hastings? Seven gardens will be open on Tuesday June 14 with refreshments being served at the Stade hall, a good place to start off from and buy your plan. £ 5 will give you acces to view all gardens on the route. Booklets, with details of all the gardens open in the surrounding area in aid of St Michaels hospice, are now on sale at the Sedlescombe Stores. The season has now started with gardens open every week until August with one additional garden open in October. A minimum donation of 50p is requested for the booklet. For all additional details please consult your booklet.
