BANK HOLIDAY: When you are not working, it is easy to forget how important Bank Holidays are to those that are, giving time to be with their families and friends over a lovely long weekend. I do hope that the weather stays fine and that you are able to do just that enjoying being together whatever you choose to do.

DON’T FORGET TOO VOTE: Election of the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Sussex Police area. Details of all the candidates were on display in the Battle Observer last week. The polling station will be open at the village hall from 7am until 10pm on Thursday May 5. If you are a resident in the village this should be your polling station and be on the list to vote. You do not need to take the card that was delivered to your home with you but it does help the polling clerk in the station to find you on the electoral list.

COFFEE MORNING: The next coffee morning held in aid of St John the Baptist will be at Margaret’s home at 2 Forge Cottages, The Green on Thursday May 5 from 10.30am to 12noon. The change of venue is due to the elections at the village hall. There will be the usual stalls and look forward to welcoming our regular visitors and welcoming new ones for coffee or tea, scones and good company.

LANDSCAPE WALK: If you are looking to learn more about the area in which we live, Peter Miles will be repeating his Weald landscape walk starting this Sunday May 1 and May 8. The walk is based in Mountfield but is concerned with clues to why our local Wealden landscape looks as it does so it is directly relevant to the woods and fields of Sedlescombe. The walk covers old tracks and roads, woodland archaeology, medieval earthworks, quarries and minepits, woodland flowers including one rare plant, woodland crafts (and a rare tree), foraging and more. Duration about three hours, distance two miles, easy walking, entirely on private land which is not normally accessible, purpose serious but emphasis on fun. For more details or to book, contact Peter on 01580 880614 or [email protected].

The Manor House and gardens are set in the beautiful village of Lullingstone, east of Dartford. There are many areas of interest to explore within the large estate. The trip includes a guided tour of the interesting Manor House which has been in the same family for centuries. The church sited within the grounds is also very interesting and a visit to the world garden is strongly recommended. Why not join us in what promises to be a great day out.
