BRIGHTNESS IN THE RAIN: Brenda Page, SDGS Secretary writes ”The Sedlescombe and District Garden Society held their Autumn Show on September 22. The doors opened at 2pm on a colourful and yummy sight which was a welcome change from the dismal rain outside. As well as the delightful show of dahlias and other late summer flowers, there was a good display of Floral Art all ably supported by vegetables and fruit, handicraft of all sorts, photographs and some tempting baked goodies. This year our theme was All Things Apple. Visitors could taste 10 varieties of apples some familiar but many not so common. They could then move on to taste food, prepared by members, that represented meals throughout the day from salads, chutneys, lamb casserole, bacon pie, cakes and puddings which all contained apples of different types. This was followed by a fun competition to guess the variety of 6 apples. Many visitors stayed to have a cup of tea whilst looking at the lovely display of flowers produced despite such a difficult summer. Prize winners were: Rosemary Farley, Alison Boreham, Jim Bingham, Jane Hempson- Jones, Brian Croft, Eve Bradbury, Karen Thomas, Sheila Benson, John Page, Trevor Palmer, Brenda Page and Stephen Hempson –Jones. Young Gardeners Prize winners were Maddelena and Lucia Assorgi. If you are not already a member you may have been be inspired by the show to join the Garden Society, £7 per annum per person but only £10 for a family membership.
