CHAPEL HILL CHURCH: has been in Sedlescombe for 136 years and there will be an anniversary service to mark this occasion on Sunday June 14 at 3pm . Reverend Andrew Birch will be conducting the service, Fishy band will also be playing. Refreshments will be available and all are welcome to attend and join in praise of this historic event.

Usual services are held every Sunday at 10.30am with visiting clergy taking the services.

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH PROGRESS: The work to provide under-floor heating to St John the Baptist Parish Church in Sedlescombe has been underway since the April 7and is now nearing completion. Since its commencement two tombs have been discovered in the Nave and have been recorded by the watching Archaeologist, many tons of Victorian rubble have been removed and replaced with inert foam glass substrate and insulation. The heating pipes and manifolds have been installed, connected to the heating system, and sealed in with clay tiles. In the next few weeks the flooring tiles will be laid and the pews re-installed. Finally, the protective coverings will be removed and the church handed back to the congregation. After a thorough clean and polish, services will transfer back to the building from Sedlescombe School where they are being held in the interim. A formal re-opening will take place on Sunday August 9 to coincide with the Patronal Flower Festival. It is hoped that the Bishop of Lewes and the Archdeacon of Hastings will be able to attend the re-opening, this will be confirmed nearer the date.

SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE 2015: Sedlescombe Fayre on the Sports field will be making a welcome return this summer on Saturday July 18 2015. This is being organised by Sedlescombe Societies Association and sponsored by the Parish Council and the Sports Association. Many of the village groups and businesses will be taking part on the day including to name just a few, Sedlescombe School, The Queens Head,K9 Rescue dogs, Pestalozzi, Battle Lions, Sedlescombe Flower Club, Parish church and Friends of the Church, Sedlescombe cricket club, Sedlescombe football club and Sedlescombe Preschool when they will have the opportunity to publicise and raise funds for themselves and local charities. One of the village geese will also have a starring role. If your club or group would like to be one of them then please call Sally Sidgwick on 07803937220. There is no fee for local groups to be a part of this traditional village event. There will also be the Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society summer show, an excellent Art exhibition and refreshments provided by staff and volunteers from St Michaels Hospice.

SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE GRAND DRAW: A Grand Draw will also happen on July 18 , prizes donated to date include Brickwall Hotel Dinner for two, Brickwall Lunch for two, One hour Western Riding lesson given by Jonathan Vine-Hall, European Gold Medallist, Voucher for a combined session with Sedlescombe Fitness, Two pairs of weekend tickets including camping for the Big Green Cardigan Festival, Hamper from Sedlescombe Stores, Entry for two to Pashley Manor gardens, Mot from Vicarys garage, 2 hour guided tour of Hurst House gardens for 4 people with Pimms escorted by the Head Gardener,

OPERA EVENING: There are still tickets available for this fundraising event being organised by Battle & Villages Lions Club. They are holding an Opera Evening with 3 course dinner on Saturday July 25 at Bannatynes Spa Hotel. Glyndebourne singers Thomasin Tresize and Paul Hopwood will be singing arias and duets from Puccini, Mozart, Verdi, Dvorak and Bizet. ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDEN SCHEME: Another week, another garden , this time it is the turn of eight gardens in Hastings Old Town open on Tuesday June 9 from 10.30am to 4pm in support of this local charity. Four of then are in Tackle Way, TN34 3DE which could be a good place to start. Entry is just £5 payable at any of the gardens where you will be supplied with a ticket to visit all eight , so excellent value for money. Refreshments will be available all day at The Stade Hall so why not take some time out with family or friends and make it a date.
