HAPPY EASTER: Wishing you a very Happy Easter and hoping that you will be able to spend some time with family and friends , not forgetting that the Easter Bunny should also be putting in a appearance for the good children in the village and I know there are lots of them . I hope too, that the weather will be a little kinder allowing you to enjoy the wonderful spring countryside. For the true meaning of Easter, services are as follows

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH CHURCH: Today Good Friday April 3, at 2pm , the church choir will be singing “ Cross of Christ” as always to welcome everyone to join together to listen to this beautiful music.

Saturday April 4 the church will be decorated with lilies and daffodils by the dedicated voluntary flower arranging team from 10am onwards in preparation for the Easter services. Later that evening, Saturday April 4 at 8pm the Easter Vigil service will take place.

Easter Sunday April 5 Parish Eucharist at 10.30am.

TEA AND CAKE AT THE CHURCH: Easter Sunday April 5 the Parish church, Church Hill, Sedlescombe will be open from 12.30 to 4pm for visitors to enjoy tea and cake whilst viewing the beautiful Easter flowers and also open again to visit on Monday April 6 from 10am to 4pm. Do try and make some time over the weekend to visit.

RENOVATION OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH:

The church will be closed from April 7 for approximately twelve weeks to allow for the work to commence on the under floor heating project and reinstment of the tiled floor throughout the church. . whilst the work is ubder way services will be held in the Sedlescombe primary school hall at the usual time of 10.30am. Everyone is welcome to attend there over this period.

TIBETAN CULTURAL EVENING: On Thursday 9 April, 6:30pm, there will be a Cultural Evening, a fantastic night out for all the family, with engaging entertainment and authentic Tibetan cuisine. Meet our Tibetan students, enjoy their performances and learn about their lives. Tickets are £7.50 or £2.50 for under-12s and include a plate of delicious international food, a drink and a sweet treat. SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT GARDEN SOCIETY SPRING SHOW: The society is holding its Spring Show on Saturday April 11 in the village hall. Staging of entries will take place between 8.00 am and 10.15am followed by the judging. Doors will be open to the public from 2.00pm to view all the exhibits in the various sections, including cut flowers, vegetables, pot plants, floral art, domestic, photography handicrafts and junior sections. Anyone wishing to enter an exhibit and need advise then please contact John Parsons on 01580 831996. There will be a raffle stall and a stall where some delicious chutneys can be tasted and bought, and of course refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon.

SHEEP WORRYING IN SEDLESCOMBE: There have apparently been incidences of sheep worrying in Sedlescombe. This is particularly worrying as the ewes are currently in lamb. One of the ewes has had her ear damaged by a dog.This irresponsible dog ownership may be due to the ignorance of the law, lack of care for either the sheep or the dogs involved or a combination of all three; no matter which of these factors are involved dog owners need to understand that they can be prosecuted under several pieces of legislation; including the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953. This legislation states that dogs must not worry (chase or attack) livestock (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses and poultry) on agricultural land, so owners must keep their dogs on a lead around livestock as the farmer has the right to stop their dog, even by shooting your dog in certain circumstances. Allowing a dog to sheep-worry can culminate in the farmers livelihood being wrecked, the dog put to sleep and the owners taken to court.

Local landowners do not usually have any issue with people walking their dogs across their land, as long as dogs are kept on a lead and under control. Owners are asked to think about these things when walking their dogs. When a few dog owners act so selfishly, all other owners,including responsible one’s get tarred with the same brush.

DOG LAW AND DOG BEHAVIOUR WORKSHOPS: In response to previous issue , K-9 Rescue Remedy will be holding two very important workshops on April 18 and 19 in Sedlescombe Village Hall and are open to all dog owners. The Dog Law Workshop begins at 2pm on Saturday April 18 and costs £15 for a ticket or £25 for two tickets. The Dog Behaviour Workshop begins at 10am on Sunday April 19 and costs £15 for a ticket or £25 for two tickets. Doors open 45 minutes before the workshops begin. Tea and Coffee is available. Both workshops are to be run by David J. Stevens who was recommended by a charity called Justice for Dogs. K-9 Rescue Remedy has asked David J Stevens to provide an informative workshop about current English dog laws and also provide a dog Behaviour Workshop to help responsible dog owners to deal with any behavioural issues that they may be having.

The aim of the workshop is to help dog owners to better understand dog legislation so that they may avoid legal action being taken against them and their dogs lives being put in danger. David was formerly a Police Chief Inspector who has been involved with dogs throughout his lifetime. He is is the founder, Principle Trainer and Senior Behaviourist of Canine Solutions UK which was established in 1982. David is the designated Behavioural Consultant for Justice For Dogs which was established in 1993. He regularly supports both owners and dogs in Civil and Criminal proceedings.The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 was passed as a new law on the March 13 2014. This extensive set of laws contain sections which will apply to all breeds and kinds of dogs.

LENT LUNCHES: Margaret would like to thank everyone who supported the recent Lent lunches raising over £511 over the six weeks. Her efforts and yours will be much appreciated by the local Seaview Project and Farm Africa who will share the proceeds.

TABLE TOP SALE: There is to be a table top sale in the village hall on Saturday April 25, open to the public from 1pm, sellers to set up from 12noon. Tables are available to hire at £10, please call Margaret on 01424 870808. In aid of St John the Baptist church.
