CREAM TEA AFTERNOON: This Saturday September 6, there will be the annual Cream Tea afternoon in the Rectory Garden, Church Hill by kind permission of Father Kevin, from 3pm onwards. £3 will buy you a homemade yummy cream tea. Fingers crossed for a fine day unlike the recent Bank holiday however please note, if wet the event will take place opposite in the church. Please go along and bring your friends, raising funds for the upkeep of St John the Baptist church.

FAMILY SERVICE: This Sunday September 7, everyone is especially welcome to attend the monthly family service at St John the Baptist church starting at 10.30am.

SEDLESCOMBE FLOWER CLUB: Sedlescombe and district flower club have their next meeting in the village hall on Wednesday September 10. This month there will be another visiting flower arranger, Jean Allen, to demonstrate and interpret “Autumn Glory “. This is a return visit for Jean who is always popular with the members and visitors. If you have a love of flowers and would like to know more of what you could achieve with them for yourself or as a skill to please others then please come along and see what it is all about. There will time for refreshments and socialising during the evening and as always the opportunity to stock up on supplies to make your own arrangements plus the chance of winning one of the demonstrator’s beautiful creations in the raffle at the end of the evening. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY AUTUMN SHOW: Our neighbouring Horticultural Society at Westfield will be holding their Autumn show in the community hall, Westfield on Saturday September 13. Doors will be open to the public from 2.30pm. Along with exhibits to view there will also be some special exhibits by a local beehive association, tombola and raffle stalls, and refreshments. SEDLESCOMBE RBL BRANCH: held Commemoration and Simple Act of Remembrance of the Start of the Second World War in the village Parish Church last Wednesday September 3. The service included some of the stories associated with those who fell during the war both on the battlefield and in the local community.

MACMILLAN BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING: It is nearly time for this annual event in the village; this year it will be on Friday September 19 from 10.30am to 12.30pm at 2 Forge Cottages, The Green. There will coffee and cake, tea if you prefer, a raffle and it is hoped a well stocked cake stall for you to purchase from. Maybe even a game of chance or two. JUMBLE SALE: An early date for your diary, the annual jumble sale organised by the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust will take place on Saturday November 1 in the village hall. Time to start thinking about clearing your cupboards and wardrobes, if you have items that you would like to donate please put them aside for the cause. Details regarding collection, if needed, will follow in the next few weeks. Any further information please call the number below.

COURSES FOR RURAL AREAS: The Rye partnership, together with Sussex Coast College leads on the provision of 10 hour adult education and family learning sessions in Rye and surrounding rural areas. Courses are designed to meet the needs of the rural and urban communities that we serve, with an emphasis on helping members of the community to reach their potential and to follow a life-long pathway of learning. Courses for October are First Aid and Practical Gardening. First Aid will be run over two days the October 7 and 14 at 9.30am to 3pm. A certificate at the end of this course will be available. Practical Gardening will run for five weeks starting on Monday October 20 in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm.

Topics to include the following:- pruning, propagation, vegetable growing, fruit growing, cut flower production, greenhouse gardening, container gardening, organic gardening, wildlife gardening, garden design. Other courses that will be running throughout the next academic year will be:-Basic IT, Intermediate IT, Employability Skills, Conflict Management, Admin, How to research your Family Tree, Face Painting, Photography. Your first 10 hour course will be free of charge. After that if you wish to take part in any of the other course a small charge will be made.
