Sedlescombe

What a shame: There was so much rain over last weekend for the Rural past times show at Pestalozzi , I’m sure their hardy supporters made it a success though

‘Christian’s’ Fayre: There is to be a fayre this Saturday August 16 in the village hall from 1.30pm to 4.30pm to replace the one that had to be cancelled in July. The fayre is to raise funds for an aid to walk for Christian, a little boy who attends Sedlescombe Primary school . He has had his operation and he now needs a year of intensive physiotherapy which will hopefully improve his mobility. This is not available on the NHS. Please go along and enjoy the stalls and attractions organised by Ralph and Jean Dellow in support of this cause.

Coach trip to Parham House: Sedlescombe and District Gardens Society have their final coach trip of the year to Parham House and Gardens near Storrington, West Sussex. There are a few seats left on the coach for Wednesday August 20, so time is important should you wish to join the day out. Parham House is a beautiful Elizabethan property set in extensive gardens with a park of over 800 acres. The house has many interesting rooms, including the Great Hall, Gallery, Kitchen, Library, Plant Nursery Garden Shop, Walled Garden to name but a few areas to be investigated. If you are interested in coming along please phone Rod Eldridge on 01424 870983 ASAP.

Chicken Surprise: A couple go for a meal at a Chinese restaurant, and order the ‘Chicken Surprise’, The waiter brings the meal, served in a lidded cast iron pot. Just as the wife is about to serve herself, the lid of the pot rises slightly and she briefly sees two beady little eyes looking round, before the lid slams back down.’Good grief, did you see that ?’ she asks her husband. He hadn’t, so she asks him to look in the pot. He reaches for it and again the lid rises and he sees two little eyes, looking around before it slams down. Rather perturbed, he calls the waiter over, explains what is happening, and demands an explanation. ‘Please sir,’ says the waiter, ‘what you order ?’ The husband replies, ‘Chicken Surprise’ (You’re going to love this, and you’re going to hate yourself for loving it.)’Ah ! So sorry,’ says the waiter, ‘I bring you Peeking Duck by mistake.
