Sedlescombe

This Saturday May 17 from 12.30pm there is to be a Spring Fayre on the Green and in the Queens Head garden. 1066 pipe and drum band will once again be playing and giving their time free of charge to the event and ensuring that the day goes off well. Many stalls from local village groups and crafters along with games will be taking part and on offer for your entertainment. There will also be a Tea tent serving sandwiches and cakes throughout the afternoon, so come and have your lunch on the beautiful village Green. No entrance fee to the event so just come along and enjoy the festivities whilst raising money for these good causes, St Michaels Hospice, British Heart Foundation and local village charities. For any further details please contact Bob 871415 or Ralph 870223

St Michaels Hospice Open garden scheme could not be closer to home than this week, with four gardens here in Sedlescombe on Tuesday May 20. The Cottage in the Street, 32 Park Shaw, 5 Gorselands and 12 Gorselands will all be open from 10.30am to 4pm for you to enjoy. Admission £5 to view all of them can be paid at any of the locations. The Cottage will be serving refreshments through the day in their lovely garden. A lot of work by the owners, the Hospice organising team and the volunteers goes into these days so let us show our support by finding some time on Tuesday to take part with family and friends. Further details of the day and others in the season can be found in booklets available now at the village shop for a token donation of 50p.

Unfortunately due to the bad weather forecast for last weekend, the garden party at “Old Horsmans”, in aid of the Addington fund for farmers affected by last years flooding, had to be postponed. A new date will be decided which hopefully will give a better chance of having a fine day. Please look out for this and give your support then.

News from Sedlescombe and District flower club. In the recent village horticultural show the members of the flower club took part in the floral art section taking first in all four classes, plus three seconds and three thirds in three of the classes. Well done to everyone who took part, the display greatly impressed the NAFAS judge on the day.

You may have noticed some beautiful green floral arrangements around the village this week. The doctors surgery, the Clockhouse , the village hall and the Queens Head were all recipients of arrangements donated from the club in celebration of the fifty fifth, Emerald, anniversary of NAFAS, the National association of flower arranging societies.

Sedlescombe CE School is due to hold their Strawberry Fayre on Saturday June 28, 12noon till 4pm. This is a fantastic day out for all the family, with great attractions and side shows. There may still be the opportunity of having a stall to make the fayre an even better event. If you are interested, then please contact Karen Dann: 07850 775331 for more details. No sellers of food, cakes or drinks are required

If you have an event coming up in the local area or would like to have a small piece, outlining your club or organisation aims, activities, membership etc. then please contact me by email to [email protected] or by calling 870344.
