Sedlescombe & District Garden Society are holding two events in April this year. The first is the talk mentioned last week, by David Fitton on “Gardening For All Seasons” which will take place at the Village Hall tonight Friday April 11 starting at 7.30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and there will also be a raffle. Non-members are always welcome, so do come along for an interesting talk and a chat with like-minded people.

The Garden Society’s Spring Show will be held on Saturday April 26, again at the Village Hall. All members will have received their copy of the 2014 Show Schedule and we would particularly like to encourage our younger friends to enter the Young Gardeners classes. The Easter holidays are fast approaching so there will be plenty of time to get your exhibits ready. The theme of the show is “the 1940’s” as part of our 70th anniversary celebrations. In addition, Lin Saines (until recently the keeper of the herb garden at Rye Castle) will be on hand to answer questions on herbs and she will also be providing a variety of tasty foods, made with herbs that can easily be grown in your garden, along with recipe sheets. If there are any members who have not received their Show Schedule or there are any members of our neighbouring societies who would like to enter exhibits, please contact the Secretary for more details and/or a copy of the Schedule. Holders of trophies from last year are requested to return them to the Village Stores by April 19. Staging of exhibits and judging takes place in the morning and the Show is open to the public at 2.00 p.m. Admission 50p.

We would like to mention two more events coming up this summer as part of our 70th birthday celebrations. The Society’s Summer Show will be held on the Village Green on Saturday August 2. Although it is not our intention to replace the Summer Fayre which is traditionally held on the sports field, we are arranging some extra attractions with the help and co-operation from our local businesses and organisations.

The second event is a Gardener’s Question Time on Friday June 20 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. More details on these two events will be issued in due course but please make a note of them in your diaries. If you require any further information on any of the Society’s events, please visit the website, www.sedlescombegardensociety.org.uk or phone the Secretary on 01580 831996.

If you have an event coming up in the local area or would like to have a small piece, outlining your club or organisation aims, activities, membership etc. then please contact me by email to [email protected] or by calling 870344. Please allow a couple of weeks notice before an event to allow for full coverage
