Don’t miss this Saturday, November 23 at the village hall when St John the Baptist church have their Advent Fayre. Doors open at 2pm when you will be able to browse the many stalls , find a gift, maybe buy a book or two or some jewellery, take part in the grand Draw with lots of prizes to be won donated by local businesses. As always there will be a well stocked cake stall, lotsof lovely Christmas decorations , bath and beauty, enjoy tea and cake meeting friends old and new. All proceeds will be used to maintain our lovely historic church.

The Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust members are reminded that they are invited to attend the, usually short, AGM this Monday November 25, 7pm at Asselton House, The Green. There will then be an opportunity to meet other members as refreshments and nibbles will be served following the meeting.

Are you a member of the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust? This charitable trust was established by the late Beryl Lucey who wrote the book “20 centuries of Sedlescombe”, for the purpose of assisting in the maintenance and restoration of our beautiful 12th century Parish church. It provides a means for anyone in the community to contribute ensuring the long term survival of this historic building. Membership is open to all and starts at just £5 per year. So if you are interested in the heritage of your village then please ask for a membership form when calling 01580 830813 for further details or come along to the AGM on the above date . The next major fundraising event will be a “Burns Night” on January 31 2014 at the village hall.

The next meeting of Sedlescombe Green WI will be in the village hall on Wednesday November 27 at 7.30pm when the speaker will be from Hastings registry office giving a talk on a day in the life of a registrar , births , deaths and marriages plus other interesting subjects. The competition is the usual flower of the month or an interesting fridge magnet. Visitors and new members are always welcome, for further details please call 870533.

On Sunday December 1 at St John the Baptist church the family service at 10am will be a Christingle, everyone is welcome to attend further details to follow next week.

The Sedlescombe & District Garden Society will be holding their final event of the year on Tuesday December 3 when Chris Hone, award winning bee keeper, will be giving an illustrated and informative talk on Bees and Bee Keeping. The talk will take place at the village hall starting at 2.00 p.m. and will be followed by refreshments and the traditional raffle both with a Christmas theme. The Society has had another successful year and the committee is working hard on another full programme of events for 2014, including a number of speakers on garden related subjects, three shows, a plant sale, two coach trips and at least one social event to celebrate our 70th anniversary. Existing members can renew their membership at any time now and new members would be welcomed with open arms – why not go along on the 3rd and meet some of the existing committee and members and get a feel for what the Society can offer.
