The weather was perfect for enjoying the tea and sitting, chatting, meeting friends old and new in a lovely garden. Over £250 was raised towards church funds.

A date for your diary now, there is to be a harvest supper at the village hall on the evening of Saturday September 29. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are on sale at the village stores and from church members priced £8 each. More details to follow.

If you are a member of the National Trust, have you thought of joining your local branch? The Rye and District Association are holding a coffee morning at Bodiam Castle Tea Rooms this Saturday, September 15 from 11.00 am. Members and prospective members are invited to come and meet the committee in convivial surroundings for an informal chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

This is followed later in the week on Thursday September 20 with a presentation by Ray Shayler entitled History of the families of Scotney Castle. It is planned to vary the venue each month during the coming talks season as it has been suggested that a regular venue doesn’t suit everybody. Feedback would be welcomed on this point. This Talk will be at the Playden WI Hall commencing at 2.30 pm. The entrance fee of £2 members and £3 non-members includes refreshments after the talk.

Community transport providers from across the region will be visiting five towns in East Sussex during next week to encourage local people to use the services, and also ask them to consider supporting the projects by volunteering. Battle Area Community Transport ,Hastings Community Transport the British Red Cross will be located in Hastings outside Debenhams on September 18 when volunteers from the community transport operators will be on hand to talk about the services they run, which include door-to-door shopping services, bus hire for special trips such as theatre or leisure activities, fun events to get people involved with their railways, and schemes to improve local station facilities and access.

There are more than 30 community transport schemes operating throughout East Sussex, they are developed by local people responding to the needs of their community so hope that you will be able to visit and find out more about what is on offer.

On Saturday October 27, the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust will be holding their annual jumble sale at Sedlescombe village hall. This date does seem a long way off but if like me it takes you a while to gradually work through what is staying or going then plenty of notice is definitely required. More details will follow over the next few weeks.
