Then on this Saturday August 18 there was going to be an indoor Boot Fayre taking place at Sedlescombe Village Hall from 2-4pm but unfortunately this has had to be cancelled . Any further enquiries please call Karen on 01424 883550.

There was good weather, good company and a result from Margaret’s coffee morning last week. thank you to everyone for your support raising £100 towards the church heating repairs.

Sadly, Sedlescombe Societies’ Association had to cancel or postpone the fayres which normally take place in the village in May and July due to the exceptional summer rain, however a new committee has been formed to organise a small fayre which will take place in the grounds of the Queens’ Head pub on Saturday September 1 from 1 to 4pm. There will selection of stalls and games taking place on the day with a piper and drummer to entertain. In addition The Woodland Trust will have a stall and may be a marquee with displays of their work. The stall will be manned by Dr. Patrick Roper a local ecologist who will be pleased to discuss the Brede High Wood project part of which lies in the parish of Sedlescombe. The new committee will continue on to organise next years traditional spring fayre which will be on May 4 2013 ensuring this event remains in the Sedlescombe calendar.

Sedlescombe Primary school would like to start a second Walking Bus from the southern end of the village in the new school year. This new ‘walking bus’ would need to cross over the main street in the village, and ESCC have agreed to give a free uniform, pole and training for a pedestrian crossing patrol person for the school, mornings only, 8.30 - 9.00am. Up to three people may be needed in the village. Would you be interested in this role, perhaps doing a couple of mornings each/set up a rota? This is a great way to help the school, children and village and encourage some parents/carers to drop off their children at the southern end of the village, drop off point to be finalised, so that their children can walk to school, which will help to keep the area around the school less congested and much safer in the mornings.

We are told that the world is becoming older and that often the needs and the problems of older people are not addressed. About 30 % of the residents of Sedlescombe are over 65 years. Sedlescombe Friendship Club committee held a meeting on Thursday the ninth of this month to discuss what can be done for the older people of the Village. We are working with Rother Voluntary Action which have set up the scheme in the hope that the ways can be found in the voluntary sector to assist older people. It was decided at the meeting to send out a questionnaire to try to establish what is needed in the Village. Distribution should take place this autumn and the committee will try to meet the needs if any emerge upon the return of the questionnaires

Battle Area Community Transport mentioned last week are a local charity run bus service and have several day out bus routes for our village area. These are monthly to Eastbourne and bi monthly to Tenterden, Rye, Bexhill and Tunbridge Wells.

If you are interested there is still time to book your seat on service B84 on August 24 to Tenterden or service B85 to Rye on September 6. Passengers can use their bus passes on all routes but must call in advance to book their seats. More dates and routes are on display on the village notice board showing the next three months. Rural pastimes had a super weekend weather wise and I’m sure was enjoyed by all who attended through both of the days, what a shame then that the village had to be subjected to the overloud music all through Saturday evening, surely rural pastimes are barn dances and morris dancing not a band thinking they are playing to the whole of the area? Just an observation, so perhaps we could have a bit of notice next year on the publicity so that residents can have their ear defenders at the ready or plan for their friends to come round for a party.
