After many months of planning it was a great disappointment that the Spring fayre due to take place on the Green last Saturday had to be cancelled because of the appalling weather conditions. However a new date has been scheduled for Saturday June 2, the weekend of the Queens Diamond jubilee celebrations and it is hoped that everyone will enjoy this new date, fingers crossed without any rain.

The village has a Family Jubilee picnic taking place on Monday June 4 at the village sports field. Everyone is invited to come along with their picnic, but tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available. There will be music for barn dancing, games for children of all ages but most of all lets make it a great day of celebration for all the village. More details will follow as we approach the date.

Thank you to everyone who bought Grand Draw tickets in support of St Michael’s hospice and village groups, a total of £ 572 was raised. Despite the fayre being cancelled the draw took place at the Queens Head and a list of the winning tickets is currently on display at the village shop, all winners have been contacted. Thanks must be given to the Fayre committee, Mr & Mrs Davey, The Brickwall Hotel, The Clockhouse hair and beauty studio, Sedlescombe Stores, Carpenters Barn farm and Kester House for their generous donations of prizes.

Sedlescombe and District flower club next meet at the village hall on Wednesday May 9 when there will be a demonstration by Jean Allan entitled “Darling Buds of May “. This immediately brings to my mind, lovely pretty blossom, spring flowers and warm days however I am usually quite surprised by many of the interpretations that I have seen and no doubt this time will be no exception. I should add that artistic aptitude is a wonderful thing especially if like me you haven’t got any!

Members and visitors are always welcome so don’t forget to come along and see what it is that I am talking about, all you need is an appreciation of beautiful flowers. Doors are open from 7pm with the demo. starting at 7.30, don’t worry if you don’t know anybody there , you will by the time you leave.

The table sale the club are holding on Saturday May 19 at Sedlescombe village hall still has a few tables for hire at £7.50. If you are interested in taking part and selling some of your goods, then please contact Sheila Benson on 01797 223927.

The East Sussex Disability Association (ESDA) is a registered charity with over 70 years of experience in supporting disabled people. ESDA is an organisation led by disabled people providing expert advice, information and practical support. There are 21 groups around the County that provide outings and activities. The Sedlescombe & Westfield Club goes out on the second Thursday of every month. The activities range from lunches, afternoon teas, visits to places of interest and just getting together for some good companionship. ESDA has dedicated accessible coaches with fully qualified driver attendants that provide a door to door service for members. We try to keep costs down and simply ask for a contribution towards the transport and outings. Members also participate in fundraising to keep the costs down. Just a reminder that the Open Garden season for St Michael’s hospice started a couple for weeks ago, every Tuesday a Garden is open somewhere in the local area to visit, all details can be found in their programme. May 8 is the turn of Greenacres, Ninfield Road , North Bexhill from 10.30am to 4pm.
