Sedlescombe village voice

Sedlescombe Societies’ Association who organise the spring fayre on the Green and the main fayre and flower show in July will be one of the groups in attendance at the village hall on Tuesday April 17 when the Annual Parish Assembly takes place.

Battle & Villages Lions Club will also be there, Lion President Beccy Hurrell will be able to tell you what the Lions are all about so please visit her display table. The hall will be open from 7pm for you to view all the information before the meeting starts at 7.30pm. This is always a popular event in the village and as Valerie Wright will be stepping down after many years service this year will probably prove to be no exception.

Sedlescombe Sports Association will be hosting their annual Sports Dinner on Friday April 20 at the Brickwall Hotel. This will be a three course dinner and coffee with the added bonus this year there will be the opportunity to dance off any overindulgence. There are still tickets available priced at £30 per head, available now from Ashley Davey on 870615 or David Torrance on 870344 so please contact them with your ticket order now. The dinner is open to all who wish to encourage sport in the village and also an opportunity to give your support to the volunteers who run the sports facilities which includes the new pavilion. Join them for a great night out!

Staplecross and Hollington Art Group are holding an art exhibition at Staplecross Village Hall on Friday April 20 from 7pm -9pm, and Saturday 21, Sunday 22nd from 10am- 4pm.

Only a few weeks now to go before we have our Spring fayre on Saturday April 28, and there will lots of activity on and around the Green. Everything will be open from 1pm starting with 1066 Pipes and Drums who will be playing in support of the day. There will be 1066 spinners so you can try your hand at this traditional craft. Messy England will be attending, with them you will be able to decorate your own piece of china, perhaps you will be trying out a design to commemorate something for the Queens Jubilee or an event in your family. There will plenty of other craft stalls and games for everyone to enjoy, not forgetting the Maypole dancers from our school. This year there will be a refreshment marquee so come and have afternoon tea with your friends and family and enjoy this unique day in Sedlescombe.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Grand Draw taking place on the day. Tickets priced at 50p each are now on sale from various sellers around the village, including Sedlescombe Stores and The Clockhouse. Prizes include a luxury hamper, a meal for two at the Brickwall Hotel, vouchers for Clockhouse hair and beauty, afternoon tea at Kester House and many more. Please be generous when buying your tickets, all proceeds will go to St Michaels Hospice and local village organisations.

Welcome to our new landlord and their family of the Queens Head who arrived last week, we hope they will be very happy in the village and look forward to them becoming a central part in the life of Sedlescombe.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Lent lunches over the past few weeks, £240 was raised to be shared between Farm Africa and our Parish Church.

If you did get the chance to visit the church over Easter, you would have noticed the beautiful displays of flowers mainly lilies in memory of loved ones on view. I’m sure we would all like to thank the arrangers who give their time not just at Easter but all year round.

If you have an event coming up in the local area or would like to have a small piece, outlining your club or organisation aims, activities, membership etc. then please contact me by email to [email protected] or by calling 870344.
