See those Carnival heroes and villains!

"HEROES and villains" is the theme of this year's Carnival procession.

So far as procession organiser Nim Whitmarsh is concerned, the "heroes" are very much the faithful supporters who have already submitted their entry forms.

But he would be delighted to hear from any "villains" who leave their entry nearer the Wednesday, July 27 closing date for judging.

Late entries will be accepted after the closing date but will not be eligible for judging.

The Carnival takes place on Saturday, July 30.

Judging in Turkey Road, where the procession will form-up in readiness for the journey through cheering crowds to Polegrove, will be from noon on July 30. Early entries help the organisers plan ahead for the event.

The entry classes this year are:

*Carnival Courts

*Community Princesses/Queens

*Family Groups

*Majorettes and Twirlers

*Schools and Colleges

*Play groups and Pre-school groups

*Pubs, Clubs and Hotels

*Commercials

*Charities

*Walkers in Fancy Dress

Nim Whitmarsh said: "We thought we'd have a theme this year. It is 'Heroes and Villains' - which should give plenty of scope.

"We are particularly interested in getting more family entries this year as this always generates plenty of interest and rivalry."

Carnival procession entry forms are available from the Bexhill Observer office at 18 Sackville Road. There is no entry fee for the procession.

Bexhill Carnival is currently run by a tiny committee which has been delighted to welcome two newcomers, bringing their numbers to just nine...

One of the lesser-known aspects of Bexhill Carnival is the funfair treat given on the Thursday afternoon of Carnival Week to disabled children.

Fairground owner Nick Shore provides the funfair rides and the candyfloss.

But sponsorship is still being sought by the Carnival Committee for the hot dogs and hamburgers that are a traditional part of the treat.
