Following an inspection from April 12-19, White Waves Care Home was found to not meet the required standards for safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and management.

Despite receiving ‘good’ for its care, findings from the visit showed that the home was ‘not always safe’, with risk assessments not updated to ensure people were protected from harm.

White Waves provides accommodation for up to 19 older people, some of whom are living with dementia.

The CQC found that in one case a person had sustained three falls between January and March 2016 – one of which resulted in a hip fracture and a week’s stay in hospital.

Nevertheless, when speaking to an inspector, relatives showed no concerns that White Waves is unsafe, with one stating: “I am happy with the way my relative is treated. I know he is kept safe.”

Another finding showed when one resident was recently admitted to hospital, their relative – who is also in the home – did not visit them during their stay and White Waves made no arrangements to organise a visit and no explanation was given as to why.

However, staff at the home were seen to care for people ‘in a kind way’ and have received recommendations to improve other areas.
