The Snak Shak has been successfully helping young people for a decade after starting as a burger van in a supermarket car park.

In 2008, with the help of Lottery funding, it moved to a refurbished warehouse in the High Street, and
ever since it has been providing a safe, warm place for Selsey youngsters to meet with their friends.

Margaret Smith and Marjorie Graham, trustees and founder members, attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, May 20, where they met the Queen and other winners of this year’s award.

Marjorie said: “We are absolutely thrilled, it’s a wonderful reward for all
our volunteers, some of whom have been with us since the start.

“We work closely with groups like Youth Dream
so this is reward for them
as well.”

Between 30 and 40 youngsters come to the Snak Shak every evening.
