Seniors meet High Sheriff

SENIOR citizens at Fairlight were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of East Sussex Deborah Bedford when she visited the Marsham Older People’s Project on Friday.

The centre - MOPP for short - provides a lifeline for older people in the Fairlight, Pett and Guestling area, allowing them to meet once a week to enjoy a hot meal together and take part in other activities,

Sylvia Gutsell, who helped set up MOPP, said: “It could not have gone better. The High Sheriff is a lovely lady and showed great interest in the project.

“She went around each table meeting everyone and even asked if she could help with serving food.”

MOPP users enjoyed a roast beef dinner followed by a fresh fruit flan.

Flo Finnegan, who is in her 90’s, presented the High Sheriff with a bouquet, while Harold Holloway, also in in his 90’s, gave a bouquet to Nan Hacking, from Action in Rural Sussex, who has provided valuable support for the project.

Sylvia Gutsell said: “We were delighted and honoured by this visit. We would like to say a special thank you to all our wonderful helpers and to Nan Hacking.

“The project is going from strength to strength.”
