Senlad Rotary offer local people free blood pressure check session

Seventy-one people had their blood pressure checked and eight of them were referred for urgent visits to their GP or, in the case of one, to hospital.

Held on October 29, passers-by were invited to pop in for a free immediate check.

Colin Goldsack, from Senlac Rotary, said: “Many people are unaware of their own blood pressure and the potential effect of high blood pressure which can lead to a stroke.

“Rotary work in conjunction with The Stroke Association to provide these sessions which raise awareness of the problems of high blood pressure and give the opportunity for people to have their blood pressure checked.

“The Rotary Club of Senlac organise two sessions locally every year. The Club would like to thank the St John’s Ambulance Brigade for undertaking the checks and Barraclough’s for providing the accommodation.

“High blood pressure can affect people of all ages, not just the elderly, and over 150,000 people a year in the UK suffer a stroke.

“If you are concerned about your blood pressure or would like it checked you should seek medical advice or assistance. For further information about strokes you can visit the Stroke Association’s website at www.stroke.org.uk.
